1. Jump rope
Jumping rope is a simple technique, and quite possibly the best full body exercise around. As you jump, contract your core and keep it tight. Use your arms to swing the rope around quickly but in a controlled manner. The control you exert will ensure that your muscles are contract and engaged, not just swinging around uselessly. Don’t forget about legs! These muscles will keep you balanced, and landing softly on your knees also takes a fair bit of strength. A poor landing can result in falling and injuries.
2. Squats
Squats can be a good alternative or addition to jumping rope. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and your torso upright. Squat down as if you were to sit on a chair, with your knees not going past your toes, keeping your weight in your ankles. Go down as low as you can comfortably go without curving your back, before rising back to starting position. To increase difficulty, hold your arms out in front of you.
3. Planks
The plank is another excellent full body exercise that burns fat and builds muscle at the same time. You may think that the plank is a core exercise, but is actually an exercise that recruits almost all the muscles in the body at once. Lie face down on the ground with your elbows or hands braced firmly on the ground. Keeping your spine in a neutral position, being careful not to arch or curve your back, use your core to keep your back braced and use your arms and legs to stabilize. To increase difficulty, raise one of your legs in the air and balance.
